LAKE TAHOE UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT BOARD OF EDUCATION
OUR MISSION: The Lake Tahoe Unified School District, working collaboratively with parents and the community, will provide a quality learning environment in which all students develop competence in basic skill areas and are prepared to be responsible, contributing citizens.
Governance of the Lake Tahoe Unified School District is vested in the five members of the Board of Education, who serve staggered four-year terms. To be eligible for election, Board candidates must be at least 18 years old and must be a resident of, and a registered voter in, the District. Elections are held every two years. A new system of Elections by-Trustee-Areas was approved by the Board of Education on February 12, 2013, creating five separate areas from which Board representatives will be elected to office in subsequent elections. On February 26, 2013, the El Dorado County Board of Supervisors approved a resolution to consolidate Lake Tahoe Unified School District Board of Education elections to occur on the same date as even-year general elections.
See LTUSD Board of Education Trustee Area Map for Future Board Elections.
The Lake Tahoe Unified School District provides the guidance and resources necessary to ensure an environment conducive to learning. However, it is important to emphasize that the goal of our educational system is not to supplant parental responsibilities throughout the learning process. Rather, it is the policy of the Lake Tahoe Unified School District Board of Education to foster parental participation in order that an educational climate is created which reinforces and fosters the positive and healthy development of the child. The Board accepts as its primary responsibility the education of every child. The Board's first goal must be to provide each student with the basic skills necessary to participate and function effectively in society. These skills include, but are not limited to: Reading, writing, mathematical computation and verbal communication, motor skills development, decision making and self-esteem. In addition, the Board is committed to the goal of achieving academic excellence through a program of instruction which offers every child an opportunity to develop to the maximum of his/her individual capabilities.
Creating Learning Opportunities for Every Child to Achieve Success
"We believe that unity will be a product of this collective vision."
