LAKE TAHOE EDUCATIONAL FOUNDATION GRANTS PROVIDE SUPPORT TO EVERY SCHOOL IN LTUSD

Fall applications due Sept. 15, 2017

April 28, 2017 (SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif.) — Lake Tahoe Educational Foundation awarded more than $46,000 in grants in 2016 and helped fund programs at every school in the Lake Tahoe Unified School District. The foundation received 32 grant applications and was able to either fully or partially fund 28 of the requests.

The nonprofit foundation, founded in 1989, supports the educational programs and needs of the Lake Tahoe Unified School District. The money is raised through Snow Sports week in February, an annual mail solicitation, and through the group’s signature fundraiser in October the Food Fest.

The foundation’s grants support enrichment programs that hit all academic areas from the arts to sciences. Programs funded during the 2016 grant cycle included district wide programs like Farm Day, Wonders of Water, Instrumental Music Program, Children’s Forest, and Science Expo 2017. The foundation is a public, non-profit organization run by a 24 member volunteer board and operates with no administrative costs.

“The need is constant. Over the years the Ed Foundation has been able to step in and fund important programs for the school district,” said Michelle Ramirez, foundation board president. “We were there to support class size reduction when the state cut the funding, and we fund signature programs that add so much to students’ experiences like the instrumental music program.”

LTEF is now accepting applications for its 2017 fall grant cycle. Applications are available online on the organization’s website www.ltedf.org and are due Sept. 15. Each application must have the signature and approval of the school site principal or district superintendent.

This year’s Food Fest is scheduled for Oct. 7 from 6:30 to 10 p.m. at Hard Rock Hotel and Casino Lake Tahoe. Tickets will be available at all school district sites in September.
