JULY 14, 2014 - Lake Tahoe Unified School District BOARD OF EDUCATION  2014 Election Filing Period Starts July 14th. 
In consolidation with the El Dorado County Elections Department, LTUSD will be conducting an election on November 4, 2014 for the following elected positions: Two Full Term to be elected will expire 11/30/2018 -- Barbara Bannar – Trustee Area 5  (Northern AreaSouthern Area)  AND  vacant – Trustee Area 2.     The filing period opens on Monday, July 14, 2014 at 9:00 AM and closes on Friday, August 8, 2014 at 5:00 PM.; however, if an incumbent fails to file his or her nomination papers by August 8, 2014, the filing period will be expanded for five (5) days, ending on Wednesday, August 13, 2014 at 5:00 PM.  All interested persons must be a registered voter and reside within the boundaries TRUSTEE AREA #2 OR TRUSTEE AREA #5 at the time nomination papers are issued.   LTUSD does not have a filing fee; however, there is a charge for candidates who wish to file and have printed a Candidate Statement in the sample ballot. The fee, determined by the El Dorado County Registrar of Voters, is $410 for English and an additional $506 for Spanish. Nomination papers can be obtained at the Elections Department at 2850 Fairlane Court, Placerville, CA. or the Recorder-Clerk’s Office located at 3368 Lake Tahoe Boulevard, Suite 108 in South Lake Tahoe.  Please note the Tahoe office is open Monday through Friday, however, it is closed from 12:00 noon to 1:00 p.m.  The last day to register to vote for the November 4, 2014 election is Monday, October 20, 2014.    cLICK HERE FOR NOTICE

June 2, 2014 - PUBLIC NOTICE: South Tahoe High School is adding four new Courses of Study and adopting new textbooks: 1) CTE (Career Technical Education) English, Visual and Performing Arts: English I‐Language Takes the Stage, Grade 9, 2) English II—Get Reel: English Through Your Lens, Grade 10, and 3) English III - Communication by Design, Grades 11-12. 4) AP Human Geography, Grade 9. Materials not previously board approved will be on display in the Lake Tahoe Unified School District Education Center, 1021 Al Tahoe Blvd., for the next 30 days. Public comments are welcomed at the July 22, 2014 Board Meeting when the Board will vote on the adoption.

Timeline for Implementation of the Local Control Funding Formula (LCFF) and Adoption of the Local Control Accountability Plan (LCAP) - Adopted 2/11/14 In order to successfully implement changes under LCFF, the Board of Education will ensure that they and the community are informed about the intent and the requirements of law. Between February and June 2014, they will address various stages of implementing the Local Control Funding Formula (LCFF) at each Board Meeting. LCFF will help them to connect their local decisions to foundational principles—including equity and transparency.

POSTING AND DISTRIBUTION OF MATERIALS:  LTUSD recognizes the value of distributing materials that are of broad interest to a great number of our students, their parents/guardians, and staff. Therefore, we make our distribution network available on a limited basis. However, the volume of requests and the staff time to handle the materials require us to carefully monitor requests.   REPORT INCIDENTS OF BULLYING:  An anonymous student-level Bully Reporting System enables the safe and secure reporting of bullying incidents. Bullying in our public schools has always been a concern to parents and school administrators. The issue has gained more serious attention recently. We now see widespread media coverage on the serious consequences, injuries and educational damage that result from being the victim of such incidents. Help stop bullying.   Transition to Common Core State Standards:

Proposition 30, The Schools and Local Public Safety Protection Act of 2012, approved by the voters on November 6, 2012, temporarily increases the states sales tax rate for all taxpayers and the personal income tax rates for upper-income taxpayers. Proposition 30 requires all districts, counties, and charter schools to report on their Web sites an accounting of how much money was received from the EPA and how that money was spent.
